## Describe the problem before picking a treatment.

Try a plain sentence: what you hope will change, and what has been hardest to manage.

List your medicines and supplements, gather past treatment notes, and write down your questions for the visit. Add any pregnancy or pregnancy plans to your questions.

What are we trying to treat?

What other choices could meet that goal?

What is the reason for this particular medicine?

Word to know

Assessment

A clinician working out what is happening and what care may fit.

## Expect a conversation, even online.

The Federation of State Medical Boards regards picking from a treatment list without a real assessment as improper care, as of September 26, 2026.

The group’s members are state medical boards. Its guidance is not Florida law by itself.

It also says follow-up must let patients ask questions.

As of September 28, 2026, Florida requires telehealth care to meet the same professional standard as care given in person.

Word to know

Telehealth

A visit from a distance, over tools such as video or phone.

## Ask who does what.

Who assesses me and who writes a prescription?

Which pharmacy will make the medicine or fill the prescription?

Who answers questions after I receive it?

How will follow-up work, and when might an in-person visit be needed?

What is included in the quoted fee?

## Ask what a test will answer.

Ask what the result could change about the plan. If a test is proposed, ask about the fee and how you will hear the result.

Medical-board guidance, as of September 17, 2026, calls for clinicians to arrange needed tests or refer patients for them.

This is advice for state medical boards, not a law that sets the tests every patient must have.

Ask the clinician which tests would help explain your own health problem.

## Leave with a plan you can explain.

Ask for the medicine name, the pharmacy name, the next point of contact and the full price in writing.

Leave room in your notes for what is still uncertain. Ask what would change the plan and how that decision would be discussed with you.
